Cladophora rupestris (Linnaeus) Kützing 1843: 270 · Type species. The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cladophora is  Cladophora rupestris, green alga washed on rocky beach, Normandy, France, June - Philippe Clement. The species grows abundantly in the intertidal, and is easy to identify due to its dark, green colour. Cell walls are relatively thick. In older parts of the thallus an  Cladophora rupestris is a common, dark green alga growing to 12 cm. It is a branched filamentous species giving a feathery appearance.

In Cladophora rupestris the highest inhibition percentage is 78% (±0.22) and in Ulva linza the highest inhibition percentage is 72% (±0.24) in compared to positive control which had a inhibition of 63% (±0.29). The IC50 values of Cladophora rupestris & Ulva linza was found to be 1.20 & 2.20 in mg/ml respectively.
